July 24 – Roll of Honour

On this day in 1704, an Anglo-Dutch force under Admiral Rooke captured Gibraltar. the Prince of Hesse led ashore 1,900 Marines who succeeded in isolating the Gibraltar Rock from mainland Spain. The bravery of the Royal Marines in defending the Rock in the siege that followed, led to the battle honour. So numerous are the Corps’ battle honours they are simply represented by the famous Globe and the single honour ‘Gibraltar’. Remembering 4 WW1 and 7 WW2 servicemen with NI roots.
