September 6 – Roll of Honour



By the age of 22 a young Belfast RAF officer educated at Methody and Queen’s had been decorated three times for his service with Bomber Command. This is the anniversary of his death over Germany. Six of the twelve on today’s roll are infanteers who died on this day in 1916 mainly on the Somme. Photo – Bristol Blenheim bombers. This week in 1939 a formation of 10 Bristol Blenheim bombers attacked the German fleet anchored at Wilhelmshaven. It was the first British air raid of the Second World War.
