Photo – Ypres Menin Gate. WW1 fatalities include a Bushmills sailor washed overboard, an Irish rifleman from Larne in India, and an RAF man at Gallipoli. In WW2 roll, an RAF doctor from Limavady, named on Queen’s University WM, rests in his home town.

RAF, Eastern Mediterranean Group. Private 1st Class. 231871. Died 10/12/1918. Aged 24. Son of James McKenna, of 17, Martin St., Belfast. Lancashire Landng Cemetery, Turkey (including Gallipoli)

1941        HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse

RAFVR. Sergeant. 1126208. Died 10/12/1942. Aged 25. He was an Observer on board Vickers Wellington DF736 DD-L flying with No. 22 Operational Training Unit. The plane crashed in turbulent conditions near RAF Wellesbourne Mountford, Warwickshire. Son of William and Evelyn Halliday, of Knock, Belfast. Dundonald Cemetery

Survived the sinking of HMS Repulse. Married Margery Elaine nee Struthers who pre-deceased him. Brother of Margaret, Billy, Herbert, George, Jim and Iris. A supporter of Waterside RBL Branch. Died aged 93, 13/04/2013. Buried Altnaglven Cemetery. (Londonderry Sentinel 18/05/2013).
