May 27 – Roll of Honour. Dunkirk evacuations day one

On this day: The first day of evacuations from Dunkirk in 1940. The sinking of the Bismarck in 1941. Two ships lost in 1915 – one off Gallipoli and one in the Medway, Kent, when armaments exploded. Men from NI involved in each action reflected in over 30 records in today’s Roll. Photo – Calais Southern Cemetery commemorates over 100 servicemen who died during the Dunkirk defensive action.
