Le Grand Hasard Military Cemetery near Dunkirk was created after WW1. Two further plots of 138 burials were added to the cemetery in WW2 all dating from May and June 1940. Most of today’s Roll is of men who took part in that costly rearguard action. William Rankin died in the Narvik operation of 1940. WW1 is represented by Ernest Barrett, Armagh RS, and QUB, who died with the Royal Flying Corps in 1916, one of three brothers from Bangor to fall in that war.
