August 7 – Two local sportsmen fall in WW1. Roll of Honour

Against a background of four days of the most intensive fighting in Gallipoli by Australians, the war in Europe continued. Two local sportsmen died – Edward Brown of Lisnagarvey Hockey Club and Hugh Travers of Dungannon Rugby Club. William McMaster from Cullybackey was one of five sons who served. Edward Reid who was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field, in July 1917 died this day in 1917.
