August 23 – Battle of Mons begins. Roll of Honour

A Royal Flying Corps pilot from Broughshane dies in 1917. In the Veterans Roll – Samuel Martin who fought with Canadian Forces in WW2 had family links to Portstewart and Coleraine and from Waringstown, Private Gibson of the RMLI who served during both World Wards. Thomas Lynn from Newtownards served in Europe to Dunkirk, then in North Africa, and died retaking France. Photo – Prime Minister with RUR Airborne veteran James Kelly.
