November 29. TB claimed Ballycastle WW1 hero. Portadown Desert Rat. Roll of Honour

Ballycastle Rifleman Frank McClarty’s service in WW1 was recognised by the UK and Belgian authorities. He fell victim to TB which was rife in the trenches. Alexander Liggett was a Desert Rat from Portadown who survived being a POW in Italy and Germany in WW2. One of the eight RAF in today’s Roll is the son of the Most Revd. John Allen Fitzgerald Gregg, D.D., Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of all Ireland. John, an RAF Flying Officer, has no known grave and is remembered on the Singapore Memorial at Kranji War Cemetery, and in St Andrews Cathedral, Singapore.
