
Serre Road Cemetery No 2, is the largest CWGC cemetery on the Somme with over 7,000 men buried there. The poet Lieutenant Wilfred Owen served in this area. Last night in 1915 Rifleman Colville from Ballymena and Rifleman Orr from Glenarm were accidentally wounded by the bursting of a shell. A court of Enquiry was held. George Grattan an RAF sergeant from Bangor died as a Japanese POW. His mother and two sisters were killed when German bombs fell on Bangor. Two of our three Veterans today did Boy Service in the Royal Navy. This is the birthday of John Milliken from Coleraine who signed on in 1913 as a boy and in 1914 as a man. Demobbed in 1920 he immediately signed up for the RN Reserve.
