December 7. Anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Roll of Honour

Visitors to a Pearl Harbor memorial can view vessels sunk in the attack by Japan on this day in 1941. In today’s Roll two entries of Archie Kennedy from Belfast and Hugh McMullin of Clogher in 1915 reflect the cost of the Gallipoli campaign. 1917 entries are mainly from the battle around Cambrai. Annie Gardner from Stranocum was a Sister in the Queen Alexandra’s Army Nursing Service. She is remembered on the Brockwood Memorial. Veterans are represented by RAF pilot Noel Corry DFC who completed over 54 operations, and Angus McGowan who served with the Skins in France, Belgium and Germany. He was wounded in 1917 and again in 1918. He was awarded the Military Medal. He died this day in 1958 and is commemorated in Portstewart parish church WM.
