February 17. Father and son’s joint funeral. Roll of Honour

Eighteen NI servicemen are recalled today. John Kinnin from Belfast died as a result of a training exercise with the Royal Ulster Rifles in 1942. His father Isaac died two days later as a result of the Belfast Blitz of 1941. A joint funeral took place to Carnmoney cemetery. Veteran Reggie McClelland from Bangor, a recipient of the Arctic Star, recollects the hospitality of HMS Bluebell just before she was sunk by a U-boat off Murmansk. In 1944, Alan Bayne, a naval airman with family links from New Zealand back to Moneymore, died in a flying accident. His remains were brought back to Cookstown where he is remembered.
