March 22. Courageous Derry NCO. Coleraine Gunner’s Italian travels. Roll of Honour

Sergeant James Henry Jackson, M.M. and Bar, from Londonderry died serving with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, resisting the 1918 German offensive. On the same day men from Derry, Ballymena and Belfast died in HMS Gaillardia when the ship hit a mine. A Coleraine Gunner’s Mediterranean meandering in WW2 is featured. Lance Bombardier Bobby McDonald after a spell in hospital was separated from his unit and was trained as a Regimental Signals Instructor. Bobby kept his own war diary and it has 49 entries for the movement of this unit through Italy until the war was won.
