April 2. RUR advance into Germany in WW2. Roll of Honour

Photo – Reichswald Forest War Cemetery where three men from NI are remembered who died serving this day in 1945 with 1st (Airborne) Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles having crossed the Rhine in Operation Varsity and advanced into Germany. Samuel Clayton an RAF Wireless Operator from Portadown died over France in 1944. On the same day Pioneer Corps Private Bernard McCrystal from Ballymena died near Anzio, Italy. Veterans include Coleraine-born George Cochrane whose 15 years of service included WW1 and the Battle of Jutland.
