
Squadron Leader Jim ‘Zulu’ Malley, DSO, DFC and Bar, WW2 Pathfinder became NI Prime Minister’s close civil servant adviser. Wm Montgomery from Upperlands was only 18 when he died in Birmingham in 1915 of wounds received at Dardanelles. Six men from the Royal Irish Rifles died this day in 1916 in the Beaumont Hamel area in France. Wm Bunting a Naval Reservist from Belfast was only 17 when he died in 1918 of pneumonia. In 1941 21 year old Victor Dolan of HMS Caroline died while undergoing treatment for typhoid in the Civil Fever Hospital, Newtownards.
