Joan Mary Cattanach a Northern Ireland wartime Wren who plotted the D-Day landings in a secret underground tunnel later trained as a dress designer at the Paris Academy of Fashion in London. Army medical officer Alfred Thompson (Inst and QUB) was recommended for the Victoria Cross for his actions this day in 1916. He died the day before his 31st birthday.
