November 19. War cemetery in moated chateau grounds. Roll of Honour

Bedford House Cemetery (photo) is sited at a former country house in a small wooded park with moats. The fallen remembered on this day lie in Egypt, Greece, and France. Harold Black from Ballycastle served with Canadian infantry in WW1. Armoured Corps officer Francis Charles died on the first day of the battle of Alamein, he was the son of a WW1 medical officer from Cookstown. Flight Lieutenant (Navigator) John Wright from Dunmurry died in Greece in 1943. He is remembered at Suda Bay. Keady-born John Finlay enlisted in 1942 and took part in the D Day landings. A Sapper in the Royal Engineers, he died during the invasion of the Netherlands in 1944. Today’s veteran is Thomas Buchanan from Lisburn. The WW1 medical officer was a centre of mystery as to whether or not he had been killed.
