
The Britannic, sister ship to the Titanic, being used as a Hospital Ship, sinks in the Aegean Sea on this day in 1916. Andrew Carson from Dungannon and Robert Stewart from Larne returned with forces from Canada and New Zealand in WW1. Patrick Toner from Coleraine and William Wisoner from Tobermore died in Egypt serving with the Royal Artillery in 1941. David Corry from Newtownards died in 1944 serving with Royal Scots Fusiliers. His brother Henry died in 1941 serving with the Gunners. Veterans remembered today were both surgeons. Maitland Beath, QUB Services Club President 1939-40, served on an ambulance train, as a radiologist, and also on hospital ship St. Andrew.
