December 5. Choir welcome for returned Japanese POW. Rolls of Honour

Today in 1945 the choir of Dunmurry Parish Church welcomed home their member, Billy Coates, who had been a Japanese Prisoner of War. 22 Japanese POWs are recorded today. They include RAMC medic Frank Pantridge, awarded a Military Cross for his services in Malaya, and who later developed the cardiac defibrillator. In August 1917 Robert Flood a former student at Dungannon Royal School was awarded an MC for gallantry at Ypres. He died on this day three months later. Thomas Lucas emigrated from Moy to Canada and joined the RCAF. This day in 1940 his plane was in collision with another plane and he was killed instantly in the accident. In 1941 Thomas Kirk from Newtownards died with the Gunners at Alamein.
