
Harden Scott from Bangor and Ballynahinch, was one of the first officers in the Royal Flying Corps. He received his Military Cross from the King on 29/08/1917 and died within two weeks of returning to France. Memorial services were held in four Ballynahinch churches. Gunner Alex Wilton from Portstewart served in the Royal Navy in WW1. He died in Egypt in 1941 serving with the Royal Artillery. Portstewart man Hugh Hunter was born today in 1892. He emigrated to Canada and served with Canadian Field Artillery in WW1. Two much decorated flyers are in today’s Veterans Roll. Peter Casement from Ballycastle served with the RAF and Naval flyer, Michael Torrens-Spence from Laurelvale.
