Two Inniskillings died on this day in France in 1918. William Plunkett was from Fermanagh and Thomas Wallace from Annalong. Lieutenant Killen of the Royal Engineers died after serving through the Gallipoli campaign in WW1 and his grave is in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq. He was a grandson of Rev. Dr. Workman, Newtownbreda Manse. Both sons of Rev Garstin of Maghera Rectory died serving in the RAFVR in WW2. Edward died on this day in 1942 in Blenheim IV V6378 which took off at 1812 from Bodney to intrude over Soesterburg. It was lost without trace. His brother Richard had died in service on 14/10/1940. Gunner Ernest Henderson from Armagh and former student of the Royal School, died serving with the Long Range Desert Group in 1943. The Germans gave him a formal funeral and fired a salute over his grave. On this day in 1953 HRH The Duke of Edinburgh was appointed as Admiral of the Fleet. He joined the Royal Navy in 1939 and served in WW2. He made Commander before retiring in 1952 on HM Accession. He held a Naval Rank for over 80 Years. Photo – Meaulte Military Cemetery.
