Pozières British Cemetery and, surrounding the graves, the Pozières Memorial. Many from NI who died in the 1918 German offensive and whose graves are unknown are named on the Pozières Memorial including twenty-eight on today’s Roll. Remembered today is Sgt Robert Jackson from Dunadry who won the Military Medal and was later awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallantry throughout WW1. Ballymoney-born Sergeant John Brangam of Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers was decorated with the Military Medal for his bravery on 20 November 1917 during the Battle of Cambrai. He died this day in 1918. RN Telegraphist John Graham who had been a barman in Sandy Row was awarded the DSM in 1941 for gallantry during the evacuation at Dunkirk. We remember The Great Escape of WW2. 50 of the 76 Commonwealth servicemen who escaped would be executed. Today’s post contains a link to a brilliant presentation on the escape.
