Six from N Ireland were lost when three RN ships were attacked and sunk off Sri Lanka in WW2. The youngest lost was 17 years old, Boy Sailor Edward McCorkell from Strabane. He is possibly the youngest from County Tyrone to die in action in WW2. Four RAF men, David McClements from Coleraine, John Coffey from Dungannon, Cecil Cole and James Lockhart from Belfast are remembered today. When John returned on leave to Fermanagh he took off his tunic flight wings, telling his mother he was Ground Crew so she would not worry. Thomas Gordon, born in Dungannon, was one of five brothers who died in WW1.
