
Thomas McIlroy prior to enlisting lived in Upperlands and worked at William Clark & Sons Ltd. In 1917 he was awarded the Military Medal. He died in 1918 as a result of being gassed.Three Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers died in Burmah on this day in 1942. Joseph Gibson from Tobermore, William Mulholland from Lisburn, and James McCandless from Coleraine are named on the Rangoon Memorial, Myanmar. James McCandless’ brother George also fell serving with the Royal Artillery in Myanmar on 27/03/1944. Robert Monaghan from Belfast died in 1945 serving with Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers near the Argenta Gap in Italy.
