Thomas McIlroy prior to enlisting lived in Upperlands and worked at William Clark & Sons Ltd. In 1917 he was awarded the Military Medal. James McCandless’ brother George also fell serving with the Royal Artillery in Myanmar on 27/03/1944. Robert Monaghan from Belfast died in 1945 serving with Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers near the Argenta Gap in Italy.
