June 11. Old Portoran Air Ace was PoW in Great Escape camp. Roll of Honour

Strabane man Herbert Cooper, a Lance Corporal in Portora’s OTC, joined the RAF. You can read his amazing story in today’s report here. Joseph Donnelly from Castledawson and Belfast died while serving with the RNAS Armoured Car Division in Turkey in 1916. Three infanteers died in 1917; casualties of the Battle for Messines. 1944 entries in the Roll reflect the post-D Day conflict. Nathaniel Morrow was one of two Belfast brothers serving with 2 RUR. Harold Wright from Dromore was serving in the RAF Regiment. Inniskilling Fusiliers Patrick Matthews from Tandragee and Percy Saunderson from Enniskillen are remembered at the Kohima War Cemetery, India. Photo – Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery.
