During WW2 George Johnston left the Ulster Bank in Dungannon, serving in Egypt, Italy and Greece with the Gunners. Two D-Day padres left their parishes in Fermanagh. Rev James Douglas was killed in the Normandy landings in 1944 and was later mentioned in dispatches, having been in the front line with his men. Reverend James McMurray-Taylor served as chaplain to the 1st Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles (6th Airborne Division). In time of war regimental bandsmen became first-aiders and stretcher-bearers. Major James Windram LRAM from Annalong had risen through the ranks and was Musical Director of the Coldstream Guards. He died this day in 1944.
