
Tod Barker from Cookstown and Billy Young from Randalstown of the Special Air Service Regiment were murdered by the Gestapo in 1944. In 1915 Ernest Harper from Dungannon a junior lecturer at QUB died in Gallipoli. He is one of the eleven recorded here who fell on this day in that battleground. 21 Royal Inniskillings who fell between 1916 – 1918 are remembered at Potijze Chateau Wood Cemetery, Belgium. Hazell Alison, a Cambridge graduate from Portrush, is named on the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres. James Carson was one of two brothers from Larne to serve with the RAMC. A noted rugby player he died serving in Egypt attached to the RAF in WW1. His elder brother Herbert was to die a few months later. Their family established scholarships at Larne Grammar School in their memory. Samuel Saunderson, a former Cliftonville soccer player, died in a plane crash on a training exercise in 1940.
