August 28. Bangor doctor died with Commando in Dieppe raid. Roll of Honour

Photo – Brian Boru X of the Royal Irish. In 1915 Connaught Ranger William Kilpatrick from Portstewart fell at Gallipoli. Royal Irish Fusilier Henry Blacker died of wounds in hospital a few days after his brother died at Gallipolli. Henry’s remains rest in Portadown RC Cemetery. Samuel Corry a doctor from Bangor serving with No. 3 Commando died during operations at Dieppe in 1942. The former Inst scout is remembered at Baronscourt Parish Church with other members of the troop who died in WW2 and who took part in pre-war scout camps at Baronscourt. On 28th August 1942 AB John Quinn was lost in HMS Hecla. He had 28 years service and served in WW1 in the River Clyde when she landed the Anzacs at Sulva Bay, Gallipoli, and later took part in the Battle of Jutland. He is remembered at Gilford WM and St Paul’s Parish Church, Gilford RH. George Weir also served in both wars. He died serving with the Indian army and is remembered on Castledawson WM. Flight Lieutenant Samuel Hellard from Dungannon died in Germany in 1945. His remains rest at Celle War Cemetery which was the hospital cemetery of the 64th British Military Hospital and those buried here were mainly servicemen who died of wounds sustained during the last month or so of the war.
