September 24. Ards brothers in UK and USA forces WW1. Roll of Honour

Photo – HRH King Charles at the 75th – anniversary remembrance of Operation Market Garden. Today’s Roll includes John Robinson a teacher from Newtownards who died this day in 1918 serving with the Welsh Regiment. Several members of Jack’s family, including his mother, moved to the USA. A brother William James Robinson, served at the Front with the US Army Engineers. Former Coleraine Inst student Edmund McLaughlin, an RAF air mechanic, died on the same date. The Waterside man’s remains rest at Southend-on-Sea Cemetery. In 1942 Joseph Curran from Lurgan was shot down over Germany while serving with 428 Ghost Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, then based at RAF Middleton St George, Durham. Pilot Officer (Navigator) James Moore from Belfast was shot down by a night fighter over Berlin this night in 1943. In 1944 among the NI men who died at Arnhem were William Gibson and John McClune from Belfast.
