October 11. Pond Farm Cemetery. Roll of Honour

Today marks the birthday of Lieutenant Geoffrey St. George Shillington Cather, 9th Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, a 36th (Ulster) Division Officer, who would be awarded the Victoria Cross, for gallant actions on 02/07/1916. Joseph Keers was a merchant seaman serving on an RN ship when he died in 1917. He was the son of James and Sarah Keers, of Coleraine and husband of Harriet L. Keers of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Joseph McIlreavey, died serving with Royal Canadian Artillery in 1944. He was the son of Robert and Annie McIlreavey, from Coleraine. William Hunter of Whitehead left the Northern Bank to enlist. He was a Captain serving in the Royal Ulster Rifles when he died in 1945 in a motoring accident near Bad Oeynhausen, Germany. He was due to demobilise a short time after his untimely death.
