December 28. Tournai Communal Cemetery. Roll of Honour 

Chief Petty officer Thomas McLaughlin who had family links with Coleraine died serving in the Royal Naval Division at Achi Baba, Gallipoli Peninsula, in 1916. Samuel Morton from Bushmills was one of three naval personnel from NI lost in HM Tug St Issey in 1942. St Issey was a steam tug. It was attacked by U-617 off Bengazi. 36 members of crew were lost. On the same day three members of the Royal Irish Fusiliers. 1st Btn. fell during the Faughs’ operations around Goubellat in Tunisia. They were Samuel Kane from Portadown, Norman Kyle from Carnmoney and James Montgomery of Belfast. Veterans today include Cecil “Bunny” Austin, WW2 RAF Battle of Britain pilot from Londonderry and father of local radio personality Wendy Austin; also Robert Barr from Coleraine, a Royal Marine gunner who took part in the Battle of Jutland in WW1.
