
Vesey Fleming from Desertmartin emigrated to New Zealand. He died this day in 1917 serving with the NZ Rifle Brigade in France. He is named on Lecumpher Presbyterian Church RH. In 1918 Daniel McCartney from Belfast was lost in HM Submarine G8 in the North Sea. Pilot Officer Samuel Atcheson from Drumquin died in 1944 and his grave is at Vevey (St Martin’s) Cemetery, Switzerland. Amongst today’s Veterans is Derry sailor Thomas Clifford who was paid off this day in 1919. He signed on as a Boy Sailor in 1902 and was in HMS Valiant in the battle of Jutland. Francis Hughes from Omagh served from 1904 to 1923 achieving the rank of Chief Yeoman Signals.
