
Today is the wedding anniversary of Harry Stockman, a Coleraine Gunner, who married in Brussels on 09/03/1946 and brought his wife home to Tobermore. In 1917 Samuel Taylor from Bushmills died serving with the Royal Irish Rifles. Three sons enlisted having been in the UVF. Two died in the war. A report in the local newspaper of their service is included in the Roll. In 1943 the North Irish Horse had two tanks knocked out. Remembered today are Robert Currie from Monkstown, Norman Hewitt and Henry Hutchison from Belfast. Their remains rest in Tabarka Ras Rajel Cemetery, Tunisia. Norman Hewitt is named on war memorials at Inst, Queen’s, and the Royal Courts of Justice, Belfast. Alex Borthwick and David Bradley from Londonderry were lost in HMS Asphodel in 1944. Today’s Veteran remembered is the late Lord James Molyneaux. As a 25 year-old corporal in the RAF his unit assisted in the liberation of Belsen concentration camp, an experience that caused him to suffer nightmares for years.
