Thomas Davison of Spamount Street, Belfast, died today in 1915 serving with the Royal Irish Rifles in France. The GPO employee was the first of three brothers to die in the war. His two brothers died in 1916 serving with Canadian Infantry and the Royal Irish Fusiliers. Three WW1 named in today’s Roll had links with India. David McGinley from Londonderry served with the Royal Irish Fusiliers, and Talbot Reid who had links with Ballycastle and Ballymoney, served with 67th Punjabis. Neill Gavin, an Irish medical missionary in India, returned to serve with RAMC and died in France in 1916. Robert Steele from Islandmagee was lost in SS Polandia in 1917. Among the WW2 men remembered is Fred Lutton from Dungannon who was lost in HMS St Briac in 1942. Hubert Kyle, a Gunner from Clogher died in Yokohama, Japan in 1944. RAFVR Aircrew Eric Shaw from Belfast is remembered at Reichswald Forest Cemetery, Germany. Veteran Norman Cesar was one of three brothers to serve. Norman survived, on separate occasions, gun shot wounds to both legs and to his head.
