HRH Princess Elizabeth came to Comber in 1946 to be godmother at the baptism of Elizabeth Lavinia Sarah King daughter of her lady in waiting and Lt.- Commander James Osborne King, RNVR, DSC. Thomas Colwell from Ballymena served in an RAF squadron specializing in dropping supplies and agents over occupied Europe. He died in 1943 and is remembered on the Runnymeade Memorial, Ballymena WM and Harryville Presbyterian Church, Ballymena RH. William Allingham from Belfast died in 1945 on a night-time raid on THE Ruhrstahl Steelworks in Witten, Germany. George Murray, MC, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, died the same day and is remembered at Faenza War Cemetery, Italy.
