
Royal Irish Riflemen Arthur Bell from Crumlin, and Thomas McBride from Toomebridge, died in France on this day in 1916. Five RN men from Belfast died in HMS Bittern which was involved in a collision at night in 1918. William Gault from Bangor died aged 20 in 1941. He was a pilot in RAF 245 (North Rhodesian) Squadron. While based at Aldergrove he was the pilot of Hawker Hurricane V7678 that crashed near Carrickfergus on 04/04/1941. He is named on the 502 (Ulster) Squadron War Memorial in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast. Gunner Ken Jones from Sion Mills, is named at Suez War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. Aged 24, he died in 1943.
