In 1940 John Condy a young Belfast barrister serving as an officer in the Royal Artillery, 3rd. Searchlight Regt, died in the defence of Dunkirk. He is named on a memorial in Belfast Law Courts. Robert Scott served in the same regiment. The former Rockport student played hockey for LIsnagarvey. The pulpit in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Stranmillis, is a memorial to him and his parents. In 1944 Tyrone men, Michael O’ Donnell from Aughnacloy fell at Cassino, and William Patrick from Newtownstewart at Anzio.
