January 18. Lurgan pilot dies in USA. Roll of Honour

Twenty-year-old Robert Lawther from Lurgan died this day in 1943 in an aircraft accident whilst undergoing pilot training in USA. His grave is in Mesa City Cemetery, Arizona. Fourteen Inniskilling Fusiliers are among those who fell on this day in WW2. Twenty-year- old Leonard O’Neill from Stewartstown died in Rangoon in 1943, Thomas Blemings and Thomas Lambert from Dungannon, and James Maguire from Enniskillen were amongst those who died in Italy in 1944. They are remembered at Minturno War Cemetery and the Cassino Memorial. In 1945 a 19-year-old Royal Scots Fusilier became the youngest member of the forces to be awarded the Victoria Cross in WW2.
