
Fred Hall’s parents were married in Belfast where their familly was born. Hall had a remarkable career with the Canadian army which is told in today’s report. He won the VC on the night of April 23/24 1915 during the Second Battle of Ypres in Belgium. In 1915 George Leckey from Londonderry and John Lyons from Dervock also died serving with Canadian forces. On the night of April 24/25,1945, in the assault on Kattenturm, Corporal Douglas Albert Lambourne, of the Royal Ulster Rifles, was awarded the Military Medal. Alex Turbull, a Belfast sollicitor serving in the Royal Flying Corps, died in the Battle of Arras, while flying a biplane over the village of Avesnes Le Conte, south west of Boulogne. A memorial window at the Holy Trinity Church, Glencraig, commemorates the death of Anthony Bulloch of RAF Coastal Command in 1940. 30 from the services are recorded in today’s Roll of Honour.
