May 27. Two ships lost in 1915. Dunkirk defenders WW2. Bismarck sunk. Roll of Honour.

Of the 39 names in today’s Roll of Honour, twelve are Royal Navy losses in 1915 in Majestic off Gallipoli and Princess Irene in an explosion in the Medway. In 1940 John Condy a young Belfast barrister serving as an officer in the Royal Artillery, 3rd. Searchlight Regt, died in the defence of Dunkirk. He is named on a memorial in Belfast Law Courts. Robert Scott served in the same regiment. The former Rockport student played hockey for Lisnagarvey. The pulpit in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Stranmillis, is a memorial to him and his parents. In 1944 Tyrone men, Michael O’ Donnell from Aughnacloy fell at Cassino, and William Patrick from Newtownstewart at Anzio. Both veterans today are women, former students of Methodist College Belfast, who served in the WAAF. Post war one was Head Almoner, Leprosarium, Singapore.
