William Kirkpatrick from Coleraine fell in the Machine Gun Corps in 1916. Contemporary local newspaper reports tell how James Todd from Bangor was injured in Gallipoli and again later in France. He died in his home town’s hospital in 1919. An RUR man’s war – Edward Cadden tells his father’s story – A Rifleman is always a Rifleman. Patrick Clark a commando from Bessbrook died in D Day + near Ranville. William McCracken, an Australian gunner from Finaghy dies as a Japanese POW in Malaysia in 1945. Andrew Henry RAF from Cookstown dies over D Day+ territory. Today’s veteran is Robert McConnell from Hillsborough of the Royal Irish Rifles and Leinster Regiment.
