July 19. Remembering three Instonian Lions. Roll of Honour

Today marks the anniversary of the death of British Lion and Irish
International Robert Alexander, who fell in 1943 near Catania, Sicily.

Remembering also British Lion and wartime Royal Artillery officer, Harry McKibbin. Read here Edmund Van Esbeck’s and Malcolm Brodie’s tributes to this Instonian who was presented with France’s foremost award for his contribution to rugby development. Sammy Walker was the tour captain.

Thomas George McKinney died in service this day in 1916. The Intelligence Corps was founded this day in 1940 with its approval by King George VI. This day in 1943 Marine Samuel Duncan from Stewartstown died in a Japanese POW camp in Thailand. He had survived the sinking of HMS Repulse by Japanese war planes dropping torpedo’s on 10/12/1941.
