November 19. Dedication of the Ulster Memorial Tower in 1921. Roll of Honour

On this day in 1921 the Ulster Memorial Tower, Thiepval, France was dedicated and opened by Field Marshal Sir Henry Hughes Wilson, 1st Baronet, GCB DSO. The Tower stands as a lasting legacy and a reminder of the sacrifices of all the sons of Ulster who fought and died in the First World War and is Northern Ireland’s National War Memorial.
The fallen remembered on this day lie in Egypt, Greece, and France. Harold Black from Ballycastle served with Canadian infantry in WW1. Armoured Corps officer Francis Charles died on first day of battle of Alamein, he was the son of a WW1 medical officer from Cookstown. Thomas Buchanan from Lisburn, also a WW1 medical officer was a centre of mystery as to whether or not he had been killled. See veterans for details of this Instonian.
