The Roll for 1915 includes the names of four who died at Gallipoli. Three were Derry men with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. The fourth was an Australian infanteer with strong Ulster roots. The Roll of Honour for WW2 highlights two major developments. Entries for 1940 reflect the defensive fall back to Dunkirk with the fallen named on the Dunkirk Memorial or in cemeteries along the route. One of them was Gunner Leonard Edgar of 8th (Belfast) HAA Regt. In 1944 nine men mainly from North Antrim and Armagh, serving in the North Irish Horse died on this day near Cassino in Italy. In all 36 men died in the bloodiest day in the history of the NIH. Bob McClure from Dundonald was over Germany when his Lancaster Bomber exploded. He was blown through the canopy.
