On the eve of the Battle of the Somme an overview of the Ulster Division. Rory Best’s links to two Portadown WW2 fatalities called Seale. Veterans include Robert Cramsie of Ballymoney who served with the Northumberland Fusiliers and the North Irish Horse.

July 6 – Stories of the Somme – UVF officer from Tipperary had Newcastle and Belfast links

Charles Owen Slacke is remembered on the War Memorial in Newcastle and on memorials in Malone Golf Club and Newcastle Parish Church. He was killed at Thiepval on 1 July 1916
