The first major project to be completed by Remembrance Ni was to produce the first ever Roll of Honour of those from Northern Ireland who served in the Royal Navy and its related forces in World War 1.
Completed in October 2017, the 500 A4 page volume includes over 5,000 names and where possible gives the individual’s war time record. A copy is available for consultation at the NI War Memorial Building in Talbot Street, Belfast.
The Roll also includes members of the RN Air Service, the Royal Marines and the RN Armoured Car Division.
Each copy is individually produced and bound in leatherette with the title cover in gilt. The Roll was compiled from names on local war memorials, in local news papers and other sources. The information has been checked where possible with the National Archives, the Irish Memorial Roll and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Other sources included the Rolls of Honour of the Queen’s University, the Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Order.
This is a unique resource for anyone interested in the history of Northern Ireland and for those interested in family history.
