On this day in 1918, the Ulster Division is ordered that at night, they would be relieved from the Frontline. When relieved the War for the Ulster Division would be over, as they will go into the reserve and rest until the armistice. There are 20 entries of the Royal Irish Rifles in today’s Roll including Second Lieutenant William Anderson who had previously served in the North Irish Horse. His remains were buried south of Evangelieboom, together with eight others, mostly men of the Royal Irish Rifles. After the war their bodies were exhumed for reburial, but by then it had become impossible to separately identify them. They were therefore reburied together at Harlebeke New British Cemetery. In 1941 Submariner Henry Walmsley from Kilkeel was lost hitching a lift in a sub from Malta to UK. In 1942 Joseph Willett from Portrush serving in Fleet Air Arm is lost in an air accident at Cape Town. 1943 reflects Irish Fusiliers battles in Italy. In 1944 William Hetherington from Londonderry dies in India, four months after his brother’s loss. Both serving in RAF. Photo – Ranville CWGC Cemetery, WW2
