
In today’s Roll, the entries for Archie Kennedy from Belfast and Hugh McMullin of Clogher in 1915 reflect the cost of the Gallipoli campaign. 1917 entries are mainly from the battle around Cambrai. Coleraine men William Watton and his uncle James Watton enlisted on the same day and had consecutive numbers. James died this day in 1917 at Cambrai. Annie Gardner from Stranocum was a Sister in the Queen Alexandra’s Army Nursing Service. She is remembered at the Brockwood Memorial. Veterans are represented by RAF pilot Noel Corry DFC who completed over 54 operations, and Angus McGowan who served with the Skins in France, Belgium, and Germany. He was wounded in 1917 and again in 1918. He was awarded the Military Medal. He died on this day in 1958 and is commemorated on Portstewart parish church WM.
